Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai – Day 1 evening

CIMG2615It was raining on-and-off since 3.20 pm on 31-Oct-09 until 8.00 pm on my day 1 at Nexus Golf Resort. No wonder there are two umbrellas wardrobe. To most people on vocation, it is not a good day as you cannot got anywhere without getting wet. But for me, the rain does not affect my holiday mode as I did not plan to go around the town anyway. My plan for this vocation is to relax, sit back and do blogging on what is happening to me during my vocation to get my personal blog updated.

baby_lobster2I was a bit hungry at about 8.00 pm, I took one of them and walk my way out to look for food. I unintentionally walked into a restaurant that serves India cuisine. After I survey the food display, I decided to let it go this time, I left the place without ordering any food and walk around the resort for other options. I located a “Olives” Restaurant at the garden level of the main building. It serves Mediterranean cuisine  and I ordered a “baby lobster” for my dinner. It was delicious though the portion is small, no wonder it called a baby lobster. The dinner cost RM79.35, perhaps also paid for the food presentations etc.

That was what left over after I ate the meat of the baby lobster. It was hardly 10% of the total size of the lobster but taste yummy !!!  I don’t mind to try again he…he..

After dinner, I went back to my room and update my blogs until 10.30 pm when I call it a night. It was a long day !

Nexus Resort Karambunai Kota Kinabalu – Day 1 31-Oct-09

Don’t get me wrong, I am not promoting Air Asia Go Holiday package. It happened that I made a booking to Nexus Resort Karambunai in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with AirAsia. for my vocation cum blogging at this resort from 31-Oct-09 to 6-Nov-09.

I arrived LCCT airport at about 8.40am and checked in at 8.45am. My flight was at 10.20am so I have amber time to go for my breakfast at Old Town Coffee which was newly open. After my breakfast, I took a slow walk to the domestic departure hall at about 9.45 am and did a quick check on my email. I use Air Asia for several times and noted that there is a seat number on my boarding pass. I don’t know when it was started to have seat number but there is no rush to board the plane this time ( maybe due to allocated seats )

When on board, the 1st officer announced to have seat belt unfastened as the aircraft was doing refueling. The flight was delay mere less than 10 minutes and the take off as a breeze ( great job pilot ! )

I did this part of the blog on the aircraft while travelling to Kota Kinabalu. Wow ! what an experience. I feel like I am a great blogger with great ideas for my post. Try it, you sure have a sense of achievement.. Surprisingly, the airbus was very stable, I could not feel any vibration while I was posting this blog. The flight touch down at 12.50 pm, 10 minutes late (not too bad). After I check out at the immigration, I waited for about 10 minutes to pick up my luggage include my golf beg. While walkled out from the arrival hall, I saw a man hold a card with my name on it. He was my pick up person. We left the airport at about 1.30 pm and took an easy drive to the resort which took about 35 minutes. There was no traffic jam perhaps due to Saturday.

At Nexus Resort, I was greeted and settle down with a welcome drink. I sit a while before I proceed to the coffee house where I had my lunch. As my room was not ready for check in, I walk around the resort and took note of the makan place. There is a restaurant for, a pub and and Chinese Restaurant. There is also a samll eating place by the beach.

At about 3.15 pm, the sky certainly very cloudy and dark looks like going to rain. True enough, certain downpour at 3.20pm. I sat by the lobby lounge to write this part of the post.

9-Hole Golf Game at Palm Garden Resort

Today is my first attempt to play at Palm Garden Championship 27-hole Golf Course. I was staying at the Palm Garden Resort mere 5 minutes walk to the golf club house. I went to the registration counter and there was promotion at this time. I could only play a 9-hole as both the other two lines were under heavy upgrading. So that left 9-hole for me to play.

As this is the first time I play in this course, I don’t mind just to try out one 9-hole as I heard quite good recommendation from my friends. So, I went ahead to register for a 9-hole game. The promotion price was MR55 for a 9-hole game with twin sharing buggy. As I was alone, I have to pay palm garden championship golf courseextra MR15.75 for the buggy and another MR21.00 for the caddy. This 9-hole game cost me MR91.75 in total. I am just like most golfers who likes to explore new courses.

I tee off at hole 19 which is a short 329 Meter par-4. It was an elevated tee box with a stream across the fairway about 100 meters from the tee box. My tee shot went slightly towards the left and landed at around 150 meter to the green. The green was on an uphill slope and I used my 5 wood in an attempt to go for a regulation on but I missed it as my ball was fade and landed right of the green but about 3 meters below the elevated green. The flag was in a downward slope and I used my approach iron in an attempt to chip just on the green to let the ball roll toward the flag. But I missed it as I chip shot of the green and the ball roll backward to around the same spot where my ball landed during my second shot. Then I chip again and it landed on the end of the green but the ball did not roll too far as the green was slow ( compared to what I used to play in Bukit Jalil ).It was a down slope 3 meters putt for me. I was cautious for the putt but over shot for the first putt, then missed the second putt and ended up a 7 strokes for this hole.  What a start !!!

Anyway, that could be a warm up issue, so I proceed to hole-20, it is elevated tee box 165 meters par-3 with bunker guarded on both side. I used my favorite 7 woods to tee off. The ball flight was straight toward the green. I was not able to see where the ball landed though it was sure towards the green. I saw the ball about 2 meters beyond the flag and it was a down slope birdie putt. I missed the birdie and came back with a par.

Along the way, I read some interested display board with some golfer lessons and jokes as follows:-

pg04  palmgarden_01  pg03

The scenery of the course was pleasant and both fairway and the green were well maintained though it was a bit slow. I managed to complete the 9-hole in 1.5 hours with 4 pars ( 2 on par-3, 1 on par-4 and 1 on par-5 ).  But I screwed up the last par-4 hole with 9 strokes. What a game !!

My break starts today 28-Oct-09 at 5.15 pm

Dear friends,

After 15 long years worked with Hong Leong, I am on the way to retirement which take effect from 12-Nov-2009.

Today is my first day of taking a 10 days break. I landed myself at Palm Garden Resort somewhere between Putrajaya and UPM. It is a golf resort surrounded by a 18 holes golf course and many matured trees. When I checked into the resort at about 5.15 pm, it was just after heavy rain. Every exposed areas are wet but gave a cool feeling.

Not sure it was due to the rain, the credit card reader could not read both of my credit cards which issued from different banks. So, it may be the line problem as this is one of the common after rain phenomenon for our telecommunication line. The receptionist asked me for another credit.  Mi… I don’t carry so many credit card with me. If if I have many, I would be surrendering some of them due to the additional charges of MR50 as announced in the recent Budget.

I finally allowed to check in my room which was a deluxe room with two queen size bed. The room is equipped with WIFI facilities though the signal is not very strong but good enough for posting this articles. I could not help it but to quickly write this short post to update my where about.

OTK at 5.55 pm ….   More update later …..

Hi I am back,  after some minor hassle with my card, it finally went through.. thanks to the technology… he..he

Anyway, this short video clips shown my hotel room, nice set up room isn’t it ??

Farewell Lunch with TAG members on 21-Oct-09

A farewell lunch with all the HLYM TAG members was organized by the operation manager Mr. Jim Khor at a Thai Restaurant in Sungei Puloh. Unfortunately two of them could not run up due to last minute crisis due to vendor failed to delivery components. Without much choices, we proceed with the lunch.  Those present were Ms. Lim SC     ( Engineering Manager), Tag members were Ms Ho, En Zul, John, Chua, Leong, Yong and Loh.

executive development programI shared with them how I involved in QPP, the belter program in 1995/6, and ended up in QPP department in head office. They asked me about the plan for future TAG activities. I advised them they have completed one round of the TAG training, the next plan is really depend on how they want to move head. I advice them to work out a proposal and seek their sponsor’s support. I emphasized that the development of the TAG is carried on but now it is left to the sponsor to put all training into action in  their day to day operation. What the TAG member could do it to help the sponsor by initiating own improvement projects for their support an approval.

All of them curious bout my post-retirement plan. I told them I had no plan for my post-retirement until I got the retirement notice letter from the company. It is a short notice which I have to start to plan what I wanted to do. I reinstated that I will continue to work on QPP or Total Quality Management in general and will certainly serve the Hong Leong Group. I endeavor to transfer all my work knowledge in Total Quality Management and Operation Management into the cyber space via the Internet. I pick Internet because of its technological advantages to reach out to unlimited number of people who may find my work value to them. Further more the maintenance cost of a website or blog is quite small.

I advice them to get in touch with me and my knowledge at my personal blog at http://lmfoong.com which was created 2 weeks after I receive the retirement notice. I will include relevant links to SWOT Analysis etc
