Time to say Farewell

Dear HL colleagues and friends,

Today, 12-Nov-09 is my official retirement from the Group. Being a 15 years loyal employee, I really have “no heart” to leave this big and challenging family. I called it family because I spend more than 1/3 of my time with it, and among us, we share and concern about each others during my ups and downs.

Dr. L M FoongThe HHMC, lead by Mr. Kwek, his departmental heads and their respective their staffs celebrated my 57th birthday at Wisma Hong Leong, Level 9 on 11-Nov-09 which I took it as also a farewell wishes to me as well. This was the 2nd time in my working career that a corporate top leaders celebrate birthday with me.

I have no regret to be with the Group for such a long serving years as I have learn alot along the way. Unlike multi-national where I worked for 16 years before I join the Group, I had amber opportunities to learn the business aspect of management with the Group. These opportunities had molded me into a holistic management expert which enable me to continue my pursuit in Total Quality Management for my post retirement career. Some of my colleagues have asked me what is my retirement plan? To tell you the truth, I have no prior planning for my retirement but now I have to think about the followings:-

  1. “start to plan”
  2. Convert my hobby in Internet Marketing knowledge and skill to commercial strategies
  3. Master my QPP / TQM knowledge and skill into simplified version for needed industries throughout the globe

For immediately access to me, I have created lmfoong blog where you can track where I am and what I do. I also use this blog to test my Google listing skill within 24 hours.

You may have noticed that my plan for post retirement is NOT to retire but seems to continue to work and work and work …. and you are right! I have no intention to retire from my pursuit in Total Quality Management, god bless me …

Last but not least, I wish you all happiness with you and your family. Advance in your business endeavor and investments.

Best regards from

Dr. L M Foong, Sr. Manager, QPP

My Retirement and 57th Birthday Celebration at HHMC

Today, 11th Day of November 2009 marked my 57th birthday as well as my retirement from my 15 years employer m/s Hong Leong. My boss, Mr. Kwek, together with all other HHMC department heads and their respective staffs gathered in the conference room at 6.00 pm to celebrate my birthday. As well as giving me a farewell for my retirement.

I was emotionally unstable, though my retirement falls today but I have not pack my belongings from my office as I was not in the mood to leave the office. All the office staffs included the tea lady gathered to celebrate my birthdays was something I did not expect. The well wishes from them gave me a very comfortable feeling that I am still part of the family of HHMC perhaps as a friend.

A big piece of birthday cake was bought for the occasion and a birthday song was sang for me. Before I can perform the cake cutting ceremony, I was asked to make a wish. So, I make my wish aloud as follows:-

  • I Wish all of us good health and wealth follow by happiness.
  • I also wished HHMC business continue to grow while taking up all challenges ahead. I

I thank the Group especially Mr. Kwek allowed me stay with my job for an extended 2 years contract and I wish that all the HHMC staffs will stay with the company until retirement. I shared my little discovery in Internet Marketing experience while I was on vocation at Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai first week of Nov-09. I discovered a tactic to get my blog post listed on google page#1 within hours. I could not believed it could be done so I tested three more blog posts with the same tactics and it worked. Therefore, besides using traditional A&P and relationship marketing, I wish HHMC also look into Internet Marketing as additional marketing channel to promote HHMC business and counter some of its business challenges. After all, many Internet Marketing techniques are free.

Farewell Lunch with Nyonya Food

Well wished from a group of friends who treat me with Nyonya Food on 9-Nov-09 at a Nyonya Restaurant in Nilai, Malaysia.

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysian_cuisine, Nyonya food was developed by the Peranakan people of Malaysia and Singapore. It uses mainly Chinese ingredients but blends them with South-East Asian spices such as coconut milk, lemon grass, turmeric, screwpine leaves, chillies and sambal. It can be considered as a blend of Chinese and Malay cooking.

As I understood, nyonya food, like any other food in Malaysia and Singapore refers to food common cooked by certain group of population in Malaysia and Singapore. Fro example, the Malay food are specially prepared and cooked cuisine by the Malaysia, Chinese food (in Malaysia and Singapore) are prepared and cooked by the Chinese in these two countries. Likewise, the Nyonya Food is the food prepared and cooked by the Baba-Nyonya in Malaysia and Singapore.

6-days vocation at Nexus Golf Rssort Karambunai ended on 6-Nov-09

On the 6th of November, 2009 was the date that ends my 6-days vocation at Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I checked out my hotel room at 10am. The hotel van left to Kota Kinabalu airport at about 10.10am. It was quite a smooth journey to the airport as today was a working day and at off-peak hours. No traffic jam was cited. I noticed besides the 1Borneo Complex, there is no much changes to the surrounding as compared to my last trip 8 months ago. There is not much development Kota Kinabalu despite the beaches are clean, and there is a port at the centre of the city. After I arrived the airport terminal 2 35 minutes later, I went to check in AirAsia Flight AK5103 to Kuala Lumpur at 12.30 pm. My flight was delayed for about 15 minutes due to some paper work with the airport authority. Nevertheless, the flight was a smooth ride. My flight arrived LCCT terminal at about 3.00 pm, 15 minutes late. I checked out from the arrival hall and headed for a restaurant for my late lunch as I was hungry. I sit down and recalled the 6-days trip at Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and tried to pick areas of interest to be posted on my blog. Even though I spend only 6 days at Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, I have achieved alot especially I have leant to blog using video. Several of my blog post have already listed google page#1 with keyword such as “golfers lounge”, “teh tarik demonstration”, teh tarik halia” etc. Although these are not hot keywords, it proved a point in posting with video can get listed on google are extremely fast. My first blog post using video was up within 1-2 hours. In conclusion, my 6-days vocation not only is fun and enjoyable but also educational. learnt much more about google listing using youtube and blogging content. My learning is besides having quality content in the post, I must also do it frequently.

Are you fancy of exotic food?

Are you a tourist who like to hunt for special food whenever you tour a new place? I heard you can eat all kinds of food in certain Asean countries, never in my mind that you can also find exotic food in Malaysia.

Are you fancy exotic food such as crocodile meat?  I decided to take relax and walk around on my 5th day of my vocation at Kota Kinabalu, Sabahy. I went to a 1 year old 1Borneo Complex and decided to look around all the shops in the complex. There are many commonalities between the shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur and this new complex. I could see common branded outlets  such as Parkson, Giant, Mcdonald, KFC, local food court, boutique shop etc. On the basement floor, I notice a signboard indicated crocodile meat. Out of curiosity, I followed the sign which lead me to the basement parking lot. Just at the entrance to the parking lot, there is a shop with big sign indicated the crocodile meat.

For a while, I could not believe my eyes, this shop sells crocodile meat openly and I believed the owner has license for it.

I saw there are several display painted one side of the wall, include CNN news cutout. Wow! it claimed that crocodile meat is a health food that can cure or prevent certain illness.  More from the video, be patient, it takes about 9 minutes.
