Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai – Day 3

golf_counter1I woke up at 6.30 am on day 3, went for my breakfast at 7.15 am and headed to the golf course at 7.50 am where I registered myself for a round of 18 holes golf. The normal charge for hotel guest RM290 but I settled with RM120 as a senior golfer, Wow ! What a deal The check in staffs Ms. Kartini were very friendly who took photo with me.

Nexus Golf Resort is a 18-Holes Championship course with a typical Borneo jungle on one side and South China Sea in the other side. As it was claimed, it is really a class of its own. It is a course player friendly yet challenging. The 18-hole par 72 Ronald Fream designed course provides golfers with options that would suit any level of game they command with the fright among of skill and luck. mi…This is the first golf course I see come with 5 tee box, the red, white, blue, black and gold.

Nexus Golf Aerial View_1 All along the fairways stretch invitingly and quite flat, bunkers are used judiciously along with strategic contours and mounds with greens that are finely  manicured. Water hazards and the roughs attract the occasional unsuspecting shot calling for a fine eye t the surroundings.

I played off the blue tee which has a course rating of 66.6 and slope of 118.  Most par-4 are less than 300 meter and I thought it is easy to take it for pars. Most of my par-4 tee off left 90 -110 meter to green. It really way out of my regular play which always landed at 160 meters to green. This is not my normal play and I struggle to get it on regulation even though it is a short distance to green. Without surprise, it was a test of my short game. I completed the 18 holes with only 2 pars and a score of 47 for both lines.  What a game ! .

golf_counter2The 1st Eco-active golf resort in Malaysian Borneo, Nexus golf Resort Karambunai course presents memorable, fair but demanding challenging and serves as a world class example of modern and creative golf course architecture with a traditional feel surrounded by nature. Nexus Resort Karambunai Kota Kinabalu – Day 1 31-Oct-09

Don’t get me wrong, I am not promoting Air Asia Go Holiday package. It happened that I made a booking to Nexus Resort Karambunai in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with AirAsia. for my vocation cum blogging at this resort from 31-Oct-09 to 6-Nov-09.

I arrived LCCT airport at about 8.40am and checked in at 8.45am. My flight was at 10.20am so I have amber time to go for my breakfast at Old Town Coffee which was newly open. After my breakfast, I took a slow walk to the domestic departure hall at about 9.45 am and did a quick check on my email. I use Air Asia for several times and noted that there is a seat number on my boarding pass. I don’t know when it was started to have seat number but there is no rush to board the plane this time ( maybe due to allocated seats )

When on board, the 1st officer announced to have seat belt unfastened as the aircraft was doing refueling. The flight was delay mere less than 10 minutes and the take off as a breeze ( great job pilot ! )

I did this part of the blog on the aircraft while travelling to Kota Kinabalu. Wow ! what an experience. I feel like I am a great blogger with great ideas for my post. Try it, you sure have a sense of achievement.. Surprisingly, the airbus was very stable, I could not feel any vibration while I was posting this blog. The flight touch down at 12.50 pm, 10 minutes late (not too bad). After I check out at the immigration, I waited for about 10 minutes to pick up my luggage include my golf beg. While walkled out from the arrival hall, I saw a man hold a card with my name on it. He was my pick up person. We left the airport at about 1.30 pm and took an easy drive to the resort which took about 35 minutes. There was no traffic jam perhaps due to Saturday.

At Nexus Resort, I was greeted and settle down with a welcome drink. I sit a while before I proceed to the coffee house where I had my lunch. As my room was not ready for check in, I walk around the resort and took note of the makan place. There is a restaurant for, a pub and and Chinese Restaurant. There is also a samll eating place by the beach.

At about 3.15 pm, the sky certainly very cloudy and dark looks like going to rain. True enough, certain downpour at 3.20pm. I sat by the lobby lounge to write this part of the post.
